Significance of the month of muharram

The Month of Muharram was an important month even before Islam Muharram was the first month of the year even before Islam. It was highly esteemed, in Muharram is a month of remembrance and modern Shia meditation that is often considered synonymous with Ashura. Ashura, which literally means the" Tenth" in Arabic, refers to the tenth day of Muharram.

It is wellknown because of historical significance and mourning for the murder of Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of Muhammad. How can the answer be improved? The significance of the month of Muharram. The Islamic calendar comprises of twelve months. Among these months the month of Ramadan is popular among the Muslim Ummah because of the fasting that takes place in this month. The tenth day of the Muharram is the day of most significance which is celebrated with huge enthusiasm by the people of different factions of Muslim community for various reasons.

The blessed month of Muharram (lit. sanctified) is the first month of the Hijri calendar and is one of the four sacred months concerning which Allah Almighty Says what means: Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar months in the register of Allah [from the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred.

Ashora Day is the tenth day of Muharram and is the most Holy day of the month and one of the most sacred days of the Islamic year. There are different Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that explain the historical importance of the tenth day of Muharram is so called because it is a sacred (muharram) month and to confirm its sanctity. Allah's words (interpretation of the meaning): " so wrong not yourselves therein" mean do not wrong yourselves in these sacred months, because sin in these months is worse than in other months.
